This was a very gripping page turner. Though, I have to admit I was one unhappy, angry reader when I finished. Jocelyn and Rafe were married 4 years ago, but the marriage ended when his viper mother and besotted neighbor (OW) came between them. Rafe asks her for a divorce, she leaves and moves on with her life.

A second chance/blackmail story with a bit of a twist. H/h have been divorced for three years (he kicked her out because she was miserable on the farm and he thought she should go back to the city and they both would be happier.) It says a lot of a writer’s talent when I can go from being disgusted at the H’s pipe smoking habit to thinking it was kind of sexy. And the way he’d brush his wife’s hair … Mmm … by the end, I quite fancied this hair-brushing, pipe-smoking H.

I have lots of issues regarding this book but let's not get into that. Instead, I would like to say for any relationship to be successful, there needs to be communication, appreciation, and understanding. And these were missing and for that reason, the whole drama was created.

I'm a pushover for romances where the desperate, lovesick hero stoops to blackmail in order to secure HIS woman. Politically correct or realistic it isn't, but that's part of the fun. So I enjoyed this second-chance romance for this reason, as well as for featuring a kind-hearted heroine; good levels of tension and passion; and an ending where the protagonists actually resolve their problems in a discussion lasting more than two pages.

The h should have changed her first name to ' Saint Jo!' I would have packed my stuff and migrated to a new country with no forwarding address to avoid any future contact with the manipulating brother, heartless mother, vindictive MIL, abusive hubby, and malicious OW.
I love a good angsty reunion story, a totally smitten hero and a saintly heroine so this is a 5 stars book as far as I'm concerned!

The book was only so-so, but that cover is action-packed with issues. It appears the man has given the woman Quaaludes and by her facial expression, she is clearly high as a kite in that odd marriage of negligee and bolero jacket while the man leers smugly into the camera, while holding.. her hairbrush. Furthermore, I suspect he's using his cheek to hold her head up. And that's not even starting on the purple, pink and periwinkle decor that surrounds them. Maybe even 4.5 stars -- I liked this one! I'm definitely a sucker for a totally smitten hero though -- the reveal at the end here, which wasn't too surprising after some of the hints along the way, showed exactly how smitten this hero was. I also like it when the hero is somewhat cruel out of bed, but then loving and tender in bed -- this book had a lot of that. So anyway, I thought this was a pretty good read. Prior to this I had read two books where the H and h divorce or separate due to misunderstandings caused by others. In those books, the heroes choose to blackmail the heroine back into marriage but make their intention known from the time of the divorce that
a) they did not want a divorce/separation and are not happy about it
b) given the chance they would want the marriage to continue
c) the heroine should either beg on her knees or at least walk back properly

i enjoyed it very much. very angsty read! though when the truth was revealed at the end, i did not know where the angst came from. rafe shud have been direly chastened instead of furious. jo had been an innocent victim of his mother's vileness. what i reproach the author is trying to make a portrait of Samaritan out of jo. she was naively forgiving where her mother-in-law was concerned and it was nauseating, in my opinion at least! the woman destroyed your marriage but here you're on her side!?..more
I read this one because the H was possessive and jealous. However, he seemed more angry than anything. I wanted to see his devotion. When we do find out the lengths he went to for her, I really liked it. I just wish it we didn't have to wait till the end of the story. I did like the h though.

Yvonne Whittal was born and raised in South Africa, the setting of most of her romances. She started writing stories at a young age, but didn't really get serious about writing until after she married and had children. She got many rejection letters from publishers, until a friend who loved romances gave her to encouragement to continue.
