First of all I would like to a big say a big hi/hello and thank you to all those here as I am new to this site & was lucky to find it while I was recently searching for files relating to my printer.
I am curious to see if others have had similar problems with the same/similar model and experiences relating to the ports for both the fire wire & the USB.
First of all about a year ago my USB port on the 4000 stopped working properly (communication errors!) and then a year later the Epson 1394 driver just disappeared too and now no longer works or installs itself.
I have tried everything that I could think of and isolated it down to a malfunction on the ports.
I contacted Epson’s technical support and they were pleased to announce that I needed a new main board which I can tell you was not cheap but they then told me that to fit it was almost the same price!!!
now I am good with electronics through studying them years ago and so acquired a copy of their technicians handbook for my model and read it over & over the replacing of the main board is not too difficult to do as long as one is careful what really needs to be done is the backing up of the parameters by using the NVRAM utility which is on the Adjustment Wizard 2 disk,
and do you think Epson would sell me one or tell me where I could get one,No way!
So here I am with a very expensive printer that btw cost more than my car, it is now out of warranty and needs a part which I although I agree to buy I cannot afford to have it fitted by anyone other than myself, an Epson Engineer will charge me over £200 to do something that takes 15 minutes to do 25 max, I can do it myself but they refuse to sell/provide me the disk to do the job
I feel gutted as I am in a catch 22 situation but what can I do?
please don’t think that I disrespect Epson technicians as i do not I respect them it's just this policy that stops those capable from doing the work themselves I have always had Epson’s and always maintained them myself and if I choose to why cant I?
